It has taken on the form of these strange rings. They appear to be made of some kind of rubber. More investigation is needed.

Well they are replacing the 12 year old ones on my car now. Makes sense to buy them on sale now instead of at full price at the beginning of the season. Now if only I could find a way to swap over before late May...
